Monett Parents As Teachers

The Monett Parents as Teachers (PAT) Affiliate vision is that all children will learn, grow, and develop to realize their full potential. Services are provided to children ages prenatal to five years of age to provide the information, support, and encouragement parents need to help their children reach their full potential during these critical early years of life. This helps to provide the foundation for success in school and in life.

Parents as Teachers Group Meetings:
The following group activities are currently scheduled:

March 20th 10- 11 a.m. Dino DItty ( dinosaur activities)
April 24th 10-11 a.m. Back-to-Basics ( block and Play-dough play and its importance)
May 12th 10-11 a.m. Garden Party (planting sunflower seeds)
June 9th 10-11 a.m. Playground

All of the group meetings take place in the PAT room at 400 Linden Avenue behind Monett Elementary School.
Parents as Teachers Goals:
  • Increase parent knowledge of early childhood development and improve parenting practices.
  • Provide early detection of developmental delays and health issues.
  • Prevent child abuse and neglect.
  • Increase children’s school readiness and school success.

Parents as Teachers Services:
Screening
Monett PAT offers free screenings of the development of your infants and young children. If you have a child who is age 3 months to 3 years of age, PAT has free annual screening services to offer you. In addition, they have group services for teen mothers and in-home visits for many children, with an emphasis on children below age 3 and more at risk for school readiness.
In-Home Visits Focus
Parent-child interaction –During visits, a parent-child activity is shared to focus interactions, prompt parent engagements, and encourage child development. Parent educators facilitate observation and discussion of child development and parenting behaviors without interfering with parent-child interaction.
Development-centered parenting – Parent educators share information about how child development is related to child behavior and incorporate reflective practices to prompt parents’ recognition of this connection.
Family well-being –Parent educators also work with parents to recognize and resolve barriers to accessing needed resources.
